Dear AISL Community,

Every week, I am so excited to start writing my weekly newsletter.  This week is no exception.

Quick reminder, Monday, May 18 at 5:30 PM for our Board of Directors Elections!  Room 300 in the ALC Building. 

I have so much to share with you. First, I hope you were able to see the AISL Performance of The Sound of Music!  An amazing performance in the Muson Theater.  Amazing!  I have to continue to thank the cast and crew for their tenacious dedication to performing. Our gratitude goes to the production team of Kelly McKay, Monica Heinrichs, Jeremy Burns, and Murilo Valore! Bravo! Wonderful job!

Speaking of performances, did you see the Redhot & Blue, Yale University’s Oldest Collegiate A Cappella Group?  They performed on Thursday night for the community and then spent Friday in classes, doing workshops, and performing for the whole school!  Role models in academic and artistic achievement and I am proud to host the Yale students at AISL!

I also hope you were able to see the Early Childhood to Grade 1 Art Exhibit in the MPR this week.  Our very own Lisa Barrington did a fantastic job curating and showcasing the works of our youngest artists.  Thank you, Lisa, for starting the creative journey of students so early.  It was inspiring to see what they have accomplished.

Arts are alive at AISL and so are Athletics, as we prepare for the start of WAISAL Multi-Sport.  Opening Ceremonies are at 8:20 AM on Monday, May 18th.  I hope to see you there and at the events!

Thank you to everyone who met with our final MYP evaluators.  By all accounts, we should receive verification of approval in 6-8 weeks! We will keep you posted. 

While I could talk about this year all day.  Much of my time these days is planning for next year.  In our Learning Leadership meetings, we are having discussions on how we can show AISL’s dedication to Teaching and Learning.  

We have developed an AISL Learning Model that show our definition of learning, the learning principles at AISL, and the dispositions we use to further the students’ demonstration of learning.  I should be able to show you the model next week.  It was actually created by one of our very own educators, Laura Armitage and illustrates Hexagonal Thinking to show both connection and relationship.

AISL’s Learning Model will allow for more clearly articulated written curriculum, but more importantly, it will provide for more consistent taught curriculum horizontally across grade levels and vertically from one grade to the next.  

AISL’s Learning Model and Parents’ access to the articulated AISL Curriculum in Toddle will provide a full picture of teaching and learning at AISL.  It will even show you your students' assignments and completion! 

One last update, with a renewed dedication to the AISL Admissions process, and after following the AISL Hiring Practices, Adriana Hernandez was selected as the AISL Admissions Officer.  Adriana has been with AISL for six years in two different roles, classroom teacher and Spanish teacher.  She will begin her new role on August 1, 2026. The Admissions Officer will work with Heather-Hope, Director of Enrollment Management and Strategic Marketing to support student attraction, retention, and family support.
