Primary (EC/ES) Connect - February 27, 2026

Dear Primary Families,

As February comes to a close, we are proud to celebrate exciting events across Primary and look forward to what’s coming up next.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

For the past seven months, our students have shown an extraordinary level of dedication and perseverance. Before and after school, during lunch breaks, and throughout their weekly ASA sessions, they have been reading, reading, and reading some more. Participating in Battle of the Books is no small commitment. It requires students to read 16 different books, master full titles and authors’ names, remember even the smallest details, and confidently recall that information within a high-pressure 30-second response window. It is a challenge for anyone, and our students rose to meet it with determination and resilience.

On Tuesday, 24 February,  eighteen students from Grades 4 and 5 proudly represented our school at the Battle of the Books competition. Divided into three teams, they competed against 17 TEAMS from schools across Nigeria, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Senegal, and South Africa. Throughout the day, it was clear how deeply committed our students had been to their preparation. Their thoughtful responses, enthusiasm, and careful attention to detail were evident in every single round.

Equally impressive was the teamwork on display. Students encouraged one another, celebrated successes together, and supported each other through the more challenging moments. They demonstrated that success is not only about knowledge, but also about collaboration, trust, and perseverance. The camaraderie and friendship they showed reflected the very best of our school community.

In the end, our Dynamite Dragons soared to an outstanding third-place finish, an achievement earned through months of hard work and true team spirit. We are incredibly proud of each and every participant. Congratulations to all our readers, you did a truly DYNAMITE job!

A big thank you and show of appreciation to Ms. Tess, Ms. Feller, Ms. Regina, Mr. Williams, and Dr. Carol Ann for their dedication and making this possible for our students.

G3 STEAM SHOWCASE

This morning, our Grade 3 students proudly hosted their UOI/STEAM Showcase: Ecosystem Change in the Courtyard. The event celebrated weeks of inquiry, creativity, problem-solving, meaningful integration between homeroom classrooms, STEAM, and Library.

Throughout this unit, students explored how changes in ecosystems impact living organisms. Using research, collaboration, and the Engineering Design Process, they designed and prototyped solutions aimed at making our school environment more welcoming to beneficial organisms.

Families and visitors had the opportunity to engage with students as they shared their thinking, explained their design choices, and reflected on their learning journey. It was a wonderful celebration of student voice, innovation, and authentic learning.

A special thank you to the Grade 3 team, Ms. Elizabeth, Ms. Monica, Ms. Molly, Ms. Tokunbo, Ms. Tess, Ms. Tina, Ms. Maria, and Mr. Yusuf for their collaboration and shared commitment to this integrated learning experience.

SPORTS DAY

The Physical Education Department is excited to host the EC Sports Day on Thursday, 5 March and the Primary Sports Day on Friday, 6 March.

  • Thursday, March 5 - EC Students only
  • Friday, March 6 - KG to Grade 5 students

Primary Sports Day is a day of fun and games, where students will engage in activities that promote cooperation, competition, exercise, sportsmanship, and, most importantly, FUN.

Students will compete in teams based on their houses: EKPO, MANDELA, ANNAN, and OKONJO. Students and teachers will receive their team assignments in advance, and the full event schedule will also be shared with everyone. To help students prepare, we will practice the games during PE classes leading up to the event.

Since many activities will take place outdoors, we ask students to dress appropriately and bring an extra set of clothes in case they get wet. We also recommend packing sunscreen, a water bottle, bug spray, a hat, and a towel. Fruits will be provided mid-morning, but students may bring an additional snack if they wish.

If, for any reason, your child cannot participate in water activities or if you have any other questions, please email: ldubiela@aislagos.org or oobidiegwu@aislagos.org

Thank you in advance for your support in making this a fantastic day!
