Welcome to the American International School of Lagos!
AISL is dedicated to our vision of Inspiring Excellence. We achieve this by implementing a holistic, balanced education based on the best practices in American and International education.
We offer challenging and engaging curricula and programs including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the American High School Diploma. Our students successfully achieve what they set out to do after graduating from high school. Whether that is gaining admission to their top university choices right away, taking a gap year or pursuing an alternative career path, our graduates regularly comment on how well AISL prepared them for their studies and life, often sharing that the next step was "easy."
AISL is dedicated to preparing students for the unknown future, one which is continuously and rapidly changing. We do this by supporting students to learn how to learn - to think critically across many contexts in real life situations through approaches such as inquiry based learning, hands-on, project-based learning, and contributing to making our world and our community a better place through our service learning initiatives and character education curriculum. These are just a few examples of how we draw on some of the best pedagogical practices to prepare our students to solve the challenges of the 21st Century.
At AISL, everyone learns! Obviously, we are focused first on student learning. But everyone at AISL is expected to be a learner, to strive for continued excellence in supporting the student learning journey. To meet this expectation, we provide world class learning opportunities for parents, board members, leaders, teachers, instructional assistants, and support staff. If you are a member of AISL, you are an integral contributor to our learning community. We meet this obligation by enacting a comprehensive approach to professional learning. Strategies include bringing in some of the world’s leading educational consultants, sending our staff to high quality conferences or courses, or by integrating intentionally planned and well-structured, job-embedded professional learning through our on-site professional learning communities. We will never rest on our laurels, recognizing we can always be even better tomorrow than we are today. Our students deserve this commitment.
Most important is our strong sense of community! We are a diverse community representing over 50 countries. We celebrate this diversity as well as our commonalities. At AISL, we are about people and relationships; AISL is a family. It’s difficult to explain in words, but there is something special about AISL. Everyone is friendly and welcoming here. We look out for one another, celebrating each others’ successes and offering encouragement and support when facing challenges. AISL is a community hub weekdays and weekends. The energy and excitement on our campus is contagious. Come check it out for yourself! You will not be disappointed.
As we say in Nigeria and at AISL, YOU ARE WELCOME! We look forward to your visit.
Yours in partnership,
Sean Areias, Ed.D.
