Girls in grades Kindergarten through nine are welcome to join a Girl Scout troop at AIS and discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. In coordination with adult volunteers, girls can develop qualities like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self worth that will serve them all their lives.
Girl Scout troops generally meet once a week after school. The meetings last one hour and are organized to help girls achieve scouting goals. In addition to weekly troop meetings girls participate in several special events throughout the school year. In the past these have included calendar sales, Campfire, Father/Daughter Day, Thinking Day, and a campout. Additionally, girls often host fundraisers at AIS through hot dog and soda sales.
Scouting is not only for girls. What makes the program work is the adult volunteers, especially in the form of troop leaders. These are the individuals who plan the agenda for the scouting year as well as lead and organize the weekly troop meetings. Troops can be led by a lone troop leader with an assistant, or co-led by several leaders working together.
