Girls in Kindergarten through Ninth Grade are welcome to join a Girl Scout troop at AIS to discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. In coordination with adult volunteers, girls can develop qualities like leadership, strong values, a social conscience, and a conviction about their own potential and self worth that will serve them all their lives!

Girl Scout troops generally meet twice a month after school. The meetings last one hour and are organized to help girls achieve scouting goals. This year, two new awards are being introduced to the girls; the Bronze Award for the 5th Grade Junior Girl Scouts, and the Silver Award for the 6th Grade Cadette Girl Scouts. These two awards are designed to build on the girls' individual skills and abilities, give them the opportunity to look into
potential careers, build better relationships with their peers and impact their community positively.

In addition to weekly troop meetings, girls participate in several special activities and events throughout the school year. In the past these have included Campfire, Father/Daughter Day, Thinking Day, and a campout. This year as a project, the girls are working together to make bandannas and tablecloths. Additionally, girls often host fundraisers at AISL through hot dog and soda sales.

Scouting is not only for girls. What makes the program work is the adult volunteers, especially in the form of troop leaders. These are the individuals who plan the agenda for the scouting year as well as lead and organize the weekly troop meetings. Troops are led by two individuals, a troop leader and an assistant.
