Every Day is a Great Day at AIS!
Greetings and welcome to AISL, an IBO World School. As I have always stated, it is an honor and a pleasure to work at one of the finest educational institutions in the world. I truly believe that, and once people have been to our school, it doesn’t take much for them to believe it as well.
I hope that you find our website to be helpful, useful and easy to navigate. I would appreciate any feedback as to the efficiency and accuracy of accessing all the information online.
AISL begins its 46th year in Lagos, Nigeria. The transformation of a small school, based out of old shipping containers, with 6 teachers and 35 children, to a beautiful 8 acre campus with state of the art equipment, modern teaching materials and a highly trained professional faculty, is a legacy to be proud of. We, at AISL, are looking forward to the 2009-2010 school year as one of huge historical significance. This school year we will complete our new 40-acre high school campus and graduate our first class in May 2010. AISL has a very distinguished and celebrated history which is reflected in our students, parents, and teachers from past to present. We value our traditions and diversity with an eye toward the future.
Our current enrollment is close to 800 students from grades Pre-K-12. We have a rich and diverse population that reflects the word “international”. We celebrate our diversity and take pride in the fact that our school reflects the world. Fifty-five countries are represented within our student population. Our student population is made up of 37% American, 12% Nigerian and 53 additional countries make up the other 51%. Our community truly embraces the cultural similarities that help us understand one another better and celebrate our uniqueness.
AISL is fully accredited by the Middle States Association and has three distinct educational programs. Our Elementary School program is Pre-K-5. The Elementary School features a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that includes: Math, Literacy/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies as the Core Curriculum. We also provide Music, Art, Physical Education, Library, IT, World Languages (Spanish and French), and African Studies with an emphasis on our host country, Nigeria.
The Middle School Program includes grades 6-8. The Middle School offers a course of study which requires Math, English, World Language, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, IT, Art, and Music (both instrumental and vocal).
The High School includes grades 9-12. The Curriculum is driven by the rigorous demands of the IBO curriculum and definitely reflects a more international flavor than the Elementary or Middle School. High School students are expected to graduate with an AISL diploma and sit for the IBO exams to earn the IBO diploma. The academic success of our students is the most important thing that we do. The High School does an excellent job of getting students ready for post secondary schooling.
AISL has some outstanding features that need mentioning. Our Instrumental Band program (grades 5-12) is one of the finest within the international school network. Many of our students are recognized as top performers and invited to participate in international festivals held worldwide. We also offer 7 wireless labs, and our teachers have the latest technology in the their classrooms to facilitate instruction, using Smart Boards and Document Cameras, in addition to classroom computers. We also support international trips for grade 4-12 that reflect a connection to the curriculum.
As I said earlier, I am extremely proud of the level of education that we provide here at AISL. Through the dedicated work of parents, teachers and the community, we have something very special and I am humbled to be a part of it.
