IB World Class SchoolAISL is an IB World School

Greetings from Lagos!

Superintendent Tom Shearer, Shearer and studentsWelcome to the American International School of Lagos, Nigeria (AISL) Website.

I know you will find it informative and useful. We have made a number of changes for the 2007-08 school year including a major change to the design of the website. We aspire to making it a tool for students, parents, and teachers to use to receive and exchange information. My congratulations to our IT Coordinator, Mr. John Stewart who is working with personnel in the States to maintain the site.

AISL is beginning the 44th year of existence in Nigeria. This year is a landmark year in the sense that we have added a Grade 10 while beginning the construction of a new high school scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2008. The school is planning to offer an IB curriculum with the first graduating class to go through commencement exercises in June 2010. The excitement surrounding the project and growth of the school has made this entire community proud. AISL is committed to providing the very best education to students utilizing the best materials, equipment, facilities, technology, and educational programs. We are proud of our efforts to produce students capable of excelling in any future academic setting in either the United States or other International Schools. The expectations are high and demanding, yet the school culture is enthusiastic and friendly...Truly the best of both worlds! I believe what makes AISL so special is the way in which our community is connected to the school. The AISL Board of Directors, Administration, Faculty, and Parents, all believe that we are partners in the task of educating our students. Parents know that we are here to help them educate their children. I believe the school is open and inviting while asking parents to be part of something special. An amazing dynamic energy makes this place so unique.

The culture and the climate that has been cultivated through the past years are a direct reflection of the collaborative school-to-school relationships that AISL enjoys with state side School Districts. AISL and the Tacoma School District (Washington State) have sustained a relationship for the past 44 years. It is the longest school-to-school relationship in the world. AISL also maintains a partnership with the Klein School District (Texas) to supplement recruiting, curriculum, and professional development. The support received through these partnerships along with the help of International School Services (ISS) has enabled AISL to emerge and be recognized as one of the finest International Schools in the world.

Our student population is currently at 676 students in grades Pre K- Grade 10. American students comprise 39% of the student population. There are 44 different nationalities represented, including 18% Nigerian students. We value our diversity and celebrate our global population. In addition, AISL offers students the best and brightest of teachers. Our faculty is well trained and highly qualified. The mastery level of our teaching staff is spectacular.

AISL is set up in two schools. The Elementary school (PreK-5) academic program includes Core subjects in English Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and Science.
