Greetings from the American International School of Lagos (AISL)
I would like to welcome all of you to our website and introduce you to the wonderful environment that AISL brings to this community. I truly appreciate the opportunity that this school has provided my family and me over the years.
As the school begins it’s 47th year, it is with great pride that I speak to the quality of education that we provide that meets the expectations of those who travel to Nigeria from abroad and for those who desire a truly international experience that prepares students for future years. The school has experienced significant growth over the past four years and still maintains and sustains the integrity from which this institution was first founded.
We offer an excellent Pre-K through Grade 12 educational program that demands high academic expectations, international exposure, and a broad range of activities that are available to our students, parents, and community. AISL is a recognized IBO World School that prepares all our students for success in the academic arena throughout the world for both primary and secondary students. The teaching faculty at AISL is among the best and they are here to serve our community in a manner that is expected.
The school is divided into three distinct programs…Elementary (PreK-5), Middle (Grades6-8), and High School (Grades 9-12) with common goals, clear academic standards, and with a uniqueness to each level. All are excellent in their own right. We are extremely excited about the opening of the new High School Lekki campus (40 acres) this year. It will house our Grade 9-12 students. When this occurs we will still have the Elementary and Middle School program at the Victoria Island campus while the High School faculty and students moves to the new location. Currently we have 791 students and 55 different nationalities that reflect our international community.
We are happy to celebrate our diversity and proud to acknowledge the value this brings to our school. The school is a place where learning, living, and sharing is the foundation for the culture that has been developed over the years. The school is truly a reflection of the wonderful people here.
After many years in Nigeria, I am looking forward to completing my obligation to the school at the end of the 2010-2011year and returning to the United States. I will be transitioning with the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr. Tim Travers, who will assume the position in July 2011. We are working closely together to ensure a smooth changeover and I am certain that he will be an extremely effective leader in this community.
AISL has a very special place in my heart and will always be a school that others have to “measure up to” regardless of where you are or where you come from in the world. In a simple phrase, AISL is an “amazing place” and I am very fortunate to have been part of the legacy that has been created. Please feel free to contact me at: tshearer@aislagos.com if you have any concerns or questions.
Every day is a Great day at AISL!
Sincerely,
Thomas P. Shearer
Superintendent
