IB World Class SchoolAISL is an IB World School

Greetings from the President of the Board of Directors!

Board President, Dand SmithWelcome to the American International School of Lagos (AISL).

The AISL mission is to provide a high quality American-style education to its students in a secure environment. Core curriculum from Pre-K to 12th grade, as well as sports, music, band, art, languages, and other electives are included in the educational offerings. AISL provides numerous after-school and extra-curricular activities utilizing campus facilities, staff, and community volunteers. With nearly 800 students attending and representing 55 nationalities, AISL is able to supplement the educational experience through sharing of diverse cultures within its student body.

The Board of Directors, Administration, and Faculty are focused upon continuous improvement of the performance and offerings of AISL. Our goal is to be the best American International School in the world and an asset to the Lagos community. We consistently strive to raise the bar by improving the school’s curriculum, upgrading facilities, and recruiting highest quality teachers.

Of particular note is our high school project at the new Lekki campus. Well advanced in construction, the high school is planned to open in Fall 2010. We have already added grades 10, 11, and 12 and our first seniors graduate in Spring 2010. This expansion process has also seen the implementation of a new high school curriculum, including certification of our International Baccalaureate (IB) program. These efforts have received overwhelming support from the AISL community and reflect our steadfast commitment to program improvement.

Direction for the school is set by a nine member Board of Directors; eight board members are elected from the parent community and one member is appointed by the United States Consular General. The Board works with the Superintendent who manages the day-to-day operations of the school. Our teachers are selected through local and international recruiting and are credentialed in American as well as international teaching methods. Our high school teachers have their IB Certification. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in classroom activities and in the Parent Teacher Organization that organizes special events to benefit the school.

Should you have any comments or suggestions, the AISL staff members and Board of Directors are standing by to listen.

Thank you for your interest in AISL!
